The Mongolian National Film Council is pleased to announce the call for films to represent the country in the 96th Oscars

Government Resolution establishing the Mongolian National Film Council (No.90 of 2 March,2022) enabled the formation and operation of the MNFC (committee). The MNFC appointed a Council with a chairperson, non-staff 10 members. 30 percent of the members are representatives of Government agencies in culture, intellectual property, budget, and finance. Other members are artists and from professional NGO’s of film industry. The MNFC is formed to meet annual detailed requirements of the Academy Awards and since 2022, calling for entries, inviting national filmmakers to submit their works for consideration and selection of the MNFC in order to represent the country to the Best International Feature Film category of the Oscars every year. Film ‘Harvest Moon’ directed by B.Amarsaikhan was submitted to the 95th Oscars in 2022. The 96th Academy Awards is scheduled to be held on March, 2024 in Los-Angeles. The MNFC will choose one film of 2023 that meets the requirements and criteria set forth in Preliminary Selection of the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film to represent the country.

Please submit your work that qualifies the following requirements:
In cinematic terms, an international feature film is classified as a motion picture of extended duration (running for more than 40 minutes) crafted outside the borders of the United States.
The films predominantly feature dialogue tracks that encompass languages other than English (Mongolian), with a minimum threshold of more than 50 percent non-English content.
Must have experienced theatrical release within the territory of Mongolia for commercial purpose for at least 7 days.
Must have launched the film in Mongolia during the timeframe spanning from 1 January 2023- to 30 November 2023 (excluding Festival release)
The films are required to not have been released anywhere other than their country of origin and not have been presented at any other international event or source (any source of broadcasting, IPTV, PPV, VOD format, DVD, or airplane service)
Mongolian artists and filmmakers to be more than half of the filmmaking process participation

Deadline for film submission is August 18, 2023 until September 1, 2023.
