The center of Dornod Province is Choibalsan City. Located 670 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar, on the banks of the Kherlen river, Choibalsan is the largest city in Mongolia after Ulaanbaatar, Darkhan and Erdenet. In 2015 it was connected to the capital by a paved road. It has a harsh continental climate, low rainfall and a dry climate.
