The center of Orkhon Province is Erdenet City. It is located 380 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar and is connected to the capital city by paved roads and a railway. It is located at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level and covers an area of 84,400 hectares. The main economic sector of the province is the Erdenet Mining and Processing Plant.
