The capital of Khuvsgul Province is Murun. It is located 671 kilometers northwest of Ulaanbaatar, and covers an area of 100,629 km2, ranking sixth in the country. Bayanzurkh, Ulaan-Uul, Renchinlkhumbe and Tsagaannuur Districts are mostly populated by Darkhad, Tsaatan and Tuvan groups. Chandmani-Undur District is populated by Uriankhai. Tsagaan-Uur District is populated by Buryats, and Shine-Ider, Galt and Jargalant Districts inhabited by Khalkh populations. Khuvsgul Province has more than 300 lakes, large and small. Lake Khuvsgul is the world’s largest freshwater lake, the tenth largest in Asia, the second largest in Mongolia, and the second deepest in Central Asia.
