Darkhan-Uul’s provincial center is Darkhan City. Located in the Orkhon and Selenge basins, 235 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar, the city sits on the banks of the Kharaa river in the Burkhant valley. Darkhan City is located at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level and covers an area of 327,500 hectares. It has a harsh climate. Based on its natural resources, the city has developed the production of construction materials and has many factories (cement, silicate, meat processing, alcohol, expanded clay, mineral wool, reinforced concrete, steel, and sheepskin). It is also rich in coal, gold and iron ore.
