LOCATION: ERDENEKHAIRKHAN DISTRICT, ZAVKHAN PROVINCE
Ulaagchiin Black lake is located 80 kilometers northeast of Erdenekhairkhan district center and 110 kilometers from the center of Zavkhan Province. Surrounded by sand dunes to the north and reeds to the south, the lake is located in the middle of the majestic Tovkhosh mountain range. The lake is 48 meters deep, about 30 kilometers long, and between 5 and 10 kilometers wide. There are 13 species of migratory birds living at the lake for part of the year. The lake’s water flows under the sand dunes surrounding the southwestern part, and from there into more than 10 springs that feed the Khungui river. It is located 805 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
