LOCATION: ULAANGOM DISTRICT UVS PROVINCE

The Uvs Lake Strictly Protected Area is located 36 kilometers from Ulaangom, the capital of Uvs Province. Mongolia’s largest lake, Uvs, covers an area of ​​3,350 hectares. It is 84 kilometers long and 79 kilometers wide. Uvs lake is 12-15 meters deep on average, but in some places reaches a depth of 29 meters. The total length of its coast is 450 kilometers. Scientists have estimated that the lake is 200 million years old. Thirty eight large and small rivers such as the Tes, Nariin, Kharkhiraa, Turgen, Khondlon, Sagil, Borshoo, Khandgait and Torkhlig flow into Uvs lake. The lowest point of the lake basin is 759 meters above sea level, and the highest points are the Kharkhiraa and Turgen Noyon peaks at 4,126 meters. It is located 1,059 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
