LOCATION: TARIAT DISTRICT, ARKHANGAI PROVINCE
NOTE Terkhiin Tsagaan lake is located to the west of Khorgo mountain at an altitude of 2,060 meters above sea level. This freshwater lake is 16 kilometers long, 6 kilometers wide and has a total area of 61 square kilometers. It is 20 meters deep. Terkhiin Tsagaan lake was created 9,000 years ago when lava erupting from nearby Khorgo mountain blocked the Terkhiin river valley. This caused the area behind it to fill with water, creating the lake visible here today. Terkhiin Tsagaan lake has several islands, and the area is under state protection. It is located 537 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
