LOCATION: BAT-ULZII DISTRICT, UVURKHANGAI PROVINCE
13 kilometers from Kharkhorin District, Uvurkhangai Province, is a waterfall about 10 meters wide that falls 20 meters into the Ulaan river. The Ulaan river, in turn, flows into the western part of the majestic Orkhon river. The Orkhon flows 130 kilometers from the Gyatruun mountains to Kharkhorin District through a landscape of volcanic rocks. During the Quaternary period a volcano erupted at the headwaters of the Tsagaan Azarga river, which rises in the Khangai mountains. Over time the lava that covered this landscape has been eroded by the Orkhon river to create the present-day gorge found in the region. This landscape is located 393 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
