LOCATION: UVURKHANGAI PROVINCE, MONGOLIA
Orkhon Valley is located Ovorkhangai, about 360 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar and covers 364,358 hectares along the Orkhon River. Consequently, we find today many archaeologic vestiges, such as dating back from the 6th and 7th centuries, Khar Balgas that was the Uyghur capital, and Kharkhorin, the Mongolian capital, Tovkhon Hermitage, Shankh Monastery. It was inscribed by UNESCO in the World Heritage List in 1996. The Orkhon Vallery Cultural Landscape includes the areas of Kharkhorin, Khujirt, Bat-Ulzii and Uynga soums of Uvurkhangai province, Khashaat and Khotont soums, Arkhangai province.
