LOCATION: KHOVD DISTRICT, KHOVD PROVINCE

Khar Us Lake, one of Mongolia’s largest lakes, has an area of ​​1,153 square kilometers, is 72 kilometers and 26 kilometers wide, and is located at an altitude of 1,157 meters above sea level. The deepest parts of the lake are 4.4 meters deep, and the average depth is 2 meters. Khar Us lake collects water from an area of ​​70,450 square kilometers. 70% of it belongs to the Khovd river basin alone. Khar Us lake was taken under special state protection in 1997. It is located 1,089 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
