LOCATION:  ZUUNKHANGAI, UVURKHANGAI AND TSAGAANKHAIRKHAN DISTRICTS, UVS PROVINCE

The Khan Khokhii mountains are a significant mountain range located in Zuunkhangai, Uvurkhangai and Tsagaankhairkhan Districts, Uvs Province. Located northwest of the Khangai mountain range, their highest peak is Altan Duulga at 2,928 meters above sea level. The Khan Khokhii mountains are well known for their abundant forests, water and rivers. They form an important area for maintaining ecological balance, in particular limiting the growth of desert steppe into more fertile areas. In 2000 2,205 square kilometers of the Khan Khokhii mountains and 3,320 square kilometers around Khyargas lake were placed under special state protection. The area is located 1,160 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
