LOCATION: BAYANGOVI DISTRICT, BAYANKHONGOR PROVINCE
The snow-capped Ikh Bogd mountain, one of the highest peaks in the Gobi-Altai mountain range, is 3,957 meters above sea level. It is located in the Great Gobi region, but its forested steppe landscape is reminiscent of the Khanghai region of central Mongolia. The Great Gobi Strictly Protected Area, which runs across this area, has many interesting natural features. Ikh Bogd mountain is located in the middle of Icheetei Jarangiin Nuruu, Ulziit, Noyon, Tariat and Burgaltai mountains. The area is home to a number of wild animals including the argali, wild ass and ibex, as well as many animals listed in the Mongolian Red Book of endangered species. It is located 612 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
