One of the great historical and cultural monuments of Mongolia, “Ikh Burkhant” is located 35 km north of Sumber, the center of Khalkhgol Soum, Dornod Province, on the 35-degree slope of the bend of the west bank of Khalkhgol. This monument was built in 1859-1864 under the initiative of Togtohtur /To wan/ /1797-1868/ of HalkhSetsen Khan province and became famous as “Great Idol” and “Great God”.
The savior from eight dangers, JigjidjavJanraisag, was made horizontally by To Van and Setsen Khan Province chieftains. The large frame is 220 x 97 m, and inside it, 20 ancient Indian scripts with an average size of 165 x 110 cm are embedded horizontally, and in the small frame, 12 stupas of about 200 x 110 cm and more than 20 small deities made of stone are created around the Big Buddha.
However, this wonderful monument was vandalized at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century during several rampages and riots on the East China Railway. The destruction continued, and after the People’s Revolution, the violent hands of the persecutors of Buddhism destroyed the foundations of buildings and sheds and used it for livestock fence. In 1995-1997, related research and excavation work was carried out, and in the autumn of 1997, the restored Janraisag Buddha was consecrated in a ceremony, and this wonderful cultural and historical complex of the 19th century was able to be handed down to future generations in a real way.
