In 2015, Burkhan Khaldun mountain and its surrounding sacred sites were inscribed on the World Heritage List. Burkhan Khaldun mountain belongs to the Khentii mountains in the northeastern part of Mongolia. The site is located more than 250 kilometers northeast of Ulaanbaatar, and covers parts of Mungunmorit District of Tuv Province, and Umnudelger and Batshireet Districts of Khentii Province. It sits at an altitude of 2,362 meters above sea level. It covers an area of ​​443,739.20 hectares and the buffer zone around it covers 271,651.17 hectares. It has retained its original appearance. Burkhan Khaldun mountain is the center of the Mongolian nation. It is the burial place of great rulers, was worshiped by Genghis Khan, and is venerated by many Mongolians today. In 1995 it was turned into a state sacred mountain.
