LOCATION: KHALKH GOL DISTRICT, DORNOD PROVINCE
NOTE Buir lake, located 65 kilometers northwest of Khalkh Gol district center in Dornod Province, is 583 meters above sea level. Buir lake is of tectonic origin, but can be classified as a steppe lake due to its coastal features. The longest section, 40 kilometers from northeast to southwest, makes it the fifth largest lake in Mongolia. It has a width of 21 kilometers, a coastline of 118 kilometers, a catchment area of 20,200 square kilometers and an area of 615 square kilometers. The average depth of the lake is 6 meters, and the deepest part reaches 16 meters. It is located 806 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
