LOCATION: URGAMAL, ERDENEKHAIRKHAN AND YARUU DISTRICTS, ZAVKHAN PROVINCE

The Bor Khyar great sand dune stretches from the north of Urgamal District in Zavkhan Province along the east bank of the Khungiin river. This giant dune covers an area of more than 1,500 square kilometers. Located at the intersection of the great mountain ranges dividing western and eastern Mongolia, the Bor Khyar great sand dune is more than 15 kilometers wide and about 180 kilometers long. It is formed of compacted sand and sits at 450 meters above sea level. Bor Khyar great sand dune is located 832 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
