LOCATION: TSENGEL DISTRICT, BAYAN-ULGII PROVINCE
Aral Tolgoi is a low hill between the Khar Salaa and Rashaan rivers in Tsengel District, Bayan-Ulgii Province. These rivers originate in the foothills of the Altai Tavan Bogd mountain, the highest peak of the Mongolian Altai Mountains. A horizontal rock on the hill is engraved with numerous animal figures. Most of these images – around 90 percent – are related to wildlife and hunting. In contrast only a small number – about 7 percent – are related to livestock and animal husbandry.
