LOCATION: BARUNTURUUN DISTRICT, UVS PROVINCE

Altan Els, a giant sand dune, is located in Baruunturuun District in the eastern part of the Uvs lake depression. The total area covered by ​​this dune is 177,500 hectares. Altan Els is free from external influences such as freshwater streams, springs and oases. It has a hilly surface, and its eastern areas are occupied by low mountain-like hills such as Erdenetolgoi, Zalaa Tolgoi and Khukh Tolgoi. It is located 936 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
