LOCATION: ULAANKHUS DISTRICT, BAYAN ULGII PROVINCE
Altai Tavan Bogd is located in the north of the Mongolian branch of the Altai mountains, a majestic mountain range that stretches for more than 900 kilometers from the western border of Mongolia to Gobi-Altai Province. Among the six famous peaks of the region are Khuiten, Nairamdal, Malchin, Naran, Burged, and Tsagaan Suvarga mountains. The highest point is Khuiten peak, which lies on the Mongolian border at a height of 4,374 meters above sea level. In 1996 the area was taken under special state protection. It is located 1,356 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.
